The ‘Get Girls Playing Program is geared at increasing female participation in sports. The main aim of the project is to get more women and girls to play, become officials, coaches, and administrators. The first phase of the project will be done alongside the Women In Sport Commission. The ultimate goal is to increase female participation up to 40% by 2025.

Presently, there has been an increase in the number of women in administrative roles. However, the number of women who play, coach or officiate is on the decline. For this problem to be solved it has to be tackled at its core; the grassroots level. This campaign will seek to begin addressing this problem using various activities that will target different key demographics.

The objectives include:

To increase the number of women and girls who play sports. Sports play a vital role in everyday life. It has many health benefits and provides participants with the transferable skills that they can use in other areas of life.

To increase the number of women who serve as technical officials in sports. There is a need for more women as coaches, referees, scorers and other officiating roles in all sports.

To increase the number of women in leadership positions in sports. Although there is an increase in the number of women in administration they do not hold the highest position. Women are still subjected to traditional roles of secretary. The aim of the campaign is to help eliminate that stereotype while preparing women to be able to hold positions of power within their sports.

Supporting Girls in Sports (SGIS) is proud to announce the launch of two new Public Service Announcements (PSAs) as part of our ‘Get Girls Playing’ program. These PSAs were conceptualized by our content strategist in collaboration with Narmi Films and feature young female athletes from Saint Lucia, many of whom play for their national teams. These announcements aim to inspire and motivate young girls to get involved in sports, showcasing the benefits and opportunities sports participation can provide.

The ‘Get Girls Playing’ program is geared towards boosting the number of women and girls involved in sports as players, officials, coaches, and administrators. Despite a rise in the number of women in administrative roles, the number of women and girls who play, coach, or officiate is on the decline. To address this issue, our campaign will focus on grassroots-level engagement through a variety of activities targeting key demographics.
